‘STEPHEN HAWKING AT WORK’

Project context

The Science Museum Group (SMG) recently acquired the office and collections of one of the most famous scientists of our time, Professor Stephen Hawking. They wanted to develop a small touring exhibition to reveals highlights from Hawking’s working life, give a sense of the range of the Hawking collection and build interest in its long-term permanent display.

Role

I developed the interpretation plan and creative briefs for the film and animation in this small touring exhibition. The display celebrates Hawking as a person, physicist and communicator, his important contributions to our understanding of the universe and his remarkable life.

I collaborated with curators to distil complex content and communicate this in a small space. I developed and delivered the work remotely due to the Covid-19 pandemic, supporting an internal team who were busy on other projects, then handed back to them when they became available for the delivery phase.

Impact

The display launched in the Space gallery annex on the ground floor of the Science Museum London and is now touring other sites within the Group.

The Stephen Hawking exhibit made me personally emotional, it was very well planned and put together. Less is definitely more.
