KENSINGTON PALACE, LONDON
Context
A redevelopment project completed in 2012 had reconnected Kensington Palace with its landscape setting. Further work was needed to ensure that it was communicating its stories to visitors as well as possible.
I led a variety of projects including a site-wide interpretation review, King's State Apartments re-interpretation project and programming for a Georgian-themed Christmas in 2014 and Victorian Christmas in 2015.
Role
As Creative Programming & Interpretation Manager at Historic Royal Palaces I was responsible for creative direction of the visitor experience at Kensington Palace from September 2014 to March 2016.
I acted as audience advocate and established a permanent voice for the Interpretation department at the site. I led project teams and worked in close collaboration with colleagues across departments from conservation and learning to operations and marketing. I coordinated gallery repairs, commissioned contractors and managed creative programming events including historic music performances and food talks and tastings. Working alongside the Visitor Experience Manager I led the development of a new palace map.
Impact
I successfully advocated for and delivered a variety of improvements to the visitor experience at the palace. The new palace map has made the palace much easier for visitors to navigate.
